‘Agatha All Along’ Showrunner Dashes Hopes for an Adaptation of Our Favorite Marvel Couple

We’re getting closer to the final episode of ‘Agatha All Along,’ and most of the cards on the table have been revealed, uncovering the identities of the characters that presented quite the mystery when the show first started airing.

One of the biggest mysteries was the identity of Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal. Fans first assumed that she might be Mephisto’s gender-bent son, Blackheart until eventually her identity was first revealed by a Marvel merch leak, and ultimately by the show.

As it turns out Rio Vidal is the original Green Witch, Death. Her purpose in the show is still a mystery however all we know is that she joined the coven on the Witches Road to harvest their bodies, something she revealed back in episode 4.

Rio has quite an interesting past with Agatha, as they are both former lovers and current enemies, but that side of their story hasn’t been revealed yet. This is quite a departure from Death’s story in the comics.

As you are likely aware, in the comics Lady Death is a love interest frequently associated with Thanos, the Mad Titan.

Thanos is very much in love with Lady Death. His need for her love and approval influences a lot of what he does, especially his quest for power and destruction. Thanos thinks that by killing many beings, he can show that he is worthy of her affection.

Lady Death is an important part of Thanos’s stories, motivating his actions and creating conflict. Sometimes, she even tricks Thanos into making choices that benefit her, showing that she has power over him, even though he is very strong.

Thanos is officially dead in the MCU, although there is no doubt that other variants of him exist within the Multiverse, Brolin himself teased that the villain might ultimately return. Due to this, fans were expecting to see some connections between him and Plaza’s character – something that ‘Agatha All Along’ showrunner Jac Schaeffer recently shut down.

Schaeffer recently sat down with Inverse and revealed what kind of direction Death’s arc might have in the MCU, she revealed that more will be known in the last two episodes of the show:

There will be a little bit more illuminating about our version of Death, but what I will say is we generally leave some of it to interpretation in this show. But you’ll get a little bit more understanding of how she operates in the last two episodes.

Schaeffer also addressed Vidal’s connection to Thanos – disappointing many fans:

Thanos is not in my show, so I can’t speak to any Thanos connections. Thanos stans out there, I have no answers for you.

Interestingly enough, Lady Death was almost adapted in ‘Infinity War.’ In ‘Infinity War,’ Thanos travels to the realm of the dead to collect all the Infinity Stones. There, he meets Red Skull, played by Ross Marquand instead of Hugo Weaving. In this movie, Red Skull acts as a guide for visitors, which is a change from his role in the ‘Captain America’ movie.

However, Red Skull wasn’t the first choice for this role. Another character was suggested instead, and many fans feel that this character would have made more sense in the story and are disappointed it didn’t happen.

Ross Marquand reveals that the Russo Brothers decided not to introduce Lady Death late in the Infinity Saga. Instead, Red Skull’s cloak in the movie was a reference to Lady Death’s role in the ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ storyline.
