The success of Deadpool & Wolverine has been monumental. The film soared past the $1 billion mark, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of the year, trailing only Inside Out 2. While critics were lukewarm, fans wholeheartedly embraced it—a crucial factor for the franchise’s future.
Thanks to Marvel’s vast character roster, the film was packed with Easter eggs and cameos, much to the fans’ delight. However, a recent release hints that the MCU had an even more ambitious idea in the works.
The documentary Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine revealed an ingenious concept for a scene that could have completely transformed our understanding of the MCU. Unfortunately, this bold idea never made it to the final script, leaving fans disappointed at what could have been.
Remember that scene in the movie where Deadpool travels back in time to apply for a spot on the Avengers? The moment with Happy Hogan, which many fans say was one of the funniest in the film, showed just how badly Deadpool wanted to join the team—and how much that membership meant to him.
Of course, the only way he could pull it off was by rewriting history, but, as we know, things didn’t quite work out, setting up the rest of the Deadpool & Wolverine story.
However, the Assembled documentary on Disney+ reveals an incredible concept that almost made it into the movie. This idea would have allowed Deadpool to appear as a “member” of just about any MCU team he wanted.
How? Through a clever series of “deleted scenes” that would show Deadpool popping up in iconic MCU moments, retroactively placing him in the universe from the very beginning. A very “Deadpool” twist indeed!
Though the scene didn’t make the final cut, it would have been an absolutely brilliant addition. A collage like this would have perfectly captured Deadpool’s essence and taken the movie’s multiversal theme to a whole new level, potentially reshaping the MCU’s structure and how we perceive its timeline.
This might be exactly why Marvel decided to leave the idea out, as they likely didn’t want to make such scenes canon.
Unsurprisingly, fans were disappointed. After learning about the concept, many took to social media to voice their frustration over its exclusion.
It’s clear that most fans feel this could have been a standout moment and that Marvel may have missed a big opportunity here—but who knows, maybe they’ll find a way to work it in down the line.
