Marvel Studios recently announced an upcoming slate of TV projects for 2024/2025. Fans can look forward to plenty of animated and live-action projects. Some new heroes like Ironheart and Wonder Man will be introduced to the MCU, and some older characters like Daredevil will officially join it.
The main question is, how do these projects help set up the two upcoming major releases coming in 2026 and 2027 – ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars.’
This is just one of many questions that Alex Perez recently answered during his regular AMA.
Perez explained that Marvel’s upcoming projects will be really important for setting up the big ‘Avengers’ movies coming later. Key films and shows, including ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ ‘Thunderbolts*’, ‘Fantastic Four,’ ‘Blade,’ ‘Wonder Man,’ and ‘Ironheart,’ will introduce or build up the main characters who will play big roles in these ‘Avengers’ films.
He also mentioned that ‘What If…?’ Season 3 might add important multiverse story points, possibly featuring characters like Uatu, Captain Carter, and Kahhori. The other Marvel projects in 2024, though, will mostly have their own stories and won’t directly affect the multiverse storyline.
Next year’s Marvel slate has a lot of interesting factors that will build upon the foundation for the next Avengers’ films. The big role some of these projects have is setting up where all the major players for the next Avengers films are going to be. So, for example, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four, Blade, Wonder Man & Ironheart have the task of setting up the major players involved in Avengers: Doomsday.
What If…? season 3 I heard will also have a very important setup that’ll come into play later on when it comes to the Avengers films, and there is a chance we may see characters like Uatu, Captain Carter and Kahhori step up. The rest of the slate right now is more isolated and has stories that aren’t all that important to the multiverse narrative as far as I can tell.
2024 was marked with significant cuts when it comes to MCU’s projects, in some part thanks to ‘The Marvels’ being unsuccessful at the box office but for the most part due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that delayed numerous productions.
In any case, that seems to be changing in 2025, even though both Feige and Winderbaum recently confirmed that fans can expect reduced output in the next several years.
