Ava Starr, also known as Ghost, gained the ability to turn intangible and generate powerful energy following the quantum accident that killed her parents. S.H.I.E.L.D. used her as a secret agent at a young age. Later, she learned she was dying due to a lack of quantum energy, which she unintentionally used.
When she discovered a Quantum Tunnel created by Hank Pym, she tried to absorb energy from the Quantum Realm to heal herself. This conflicted with Pym’s plan to rescue Janet van Dyne, who needed that energy to survive.
Ava tried to steal the lab, leading to a fight with Ant-Man and Wasp. Afterward, Janet gave her some of her quantum energy, easing Ava’s condition. Ava then went into hiding with Bill Foster, and her character is now on a steady path of “redemption” in the MCU as she will soon play an important part in MCU’s newest team of (anti)heroes Thunderbolts.
Yes, Hannah John-Kamen will reprise her role in ‘Thunderbolts*’, and based on first photos and special teasers she will be sporting a brand new suit. Besides that, the actress recently revealed we can really look forward to her character development.
Kamen recently talked to Manilla Times and revealed that her powers are now stabilized enough that we will meet a completely different version of Ghost:
The last time you saw her, she was volcanic. She was flickering to death and she was in pain. I would describe her as an open nerve. She was dealing with this battle. You found her in this coping mechanism of constant survival whereas now she has control of that. With that, there’s a calm, and there’s a decisiveness, and there’s a powerful breath and beat in that. So yes, you’ll see a different Ghost.
Kamen is not the only one who commented on her powers in this context, as David Harbour recently stated that their superpowers will be tied to their character arcs in a very peculiar way:
I think there’s something about this movie, about superpowers and superheroes that our powers are inextricably linked to how broken we are. And that our powers only thrive in relationship to each other, that in isolation they can be a curse.
