‘Thunderbolts*’ and ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Are Reportedly a “Must-See” Before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

‘Captain America: Brave New World’ (releasing February 14, 2025) and ‘Thunderbolts*’ (releasing May 2, 2025) are the next two MCU movies to hit theaters.

While we know that ‘Brave New World’ will tackle Sam being Captain America in the middle of the international incident (read Red Hulk, Tiamut-Adamantium, The Leader) and ‘Thunderbolts*’ will follow Yelena, Bucky, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker teaming up against… a threat, we still don’t know how important these two movies will be for the MCU’s future.

Now, one of the most notable industry insiders, Alex Perez, hosted a Q&A where he discussed the future of the MCU. A part of the Q&A was about the importance of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ and ‘Thunderbolts*’ for the broader MCU story.

Titan: You’ve been more and more open about your ‘New Avengers’ prediction for Thunderbolts*, does that mean we can expect to see some of those members actually on the team in Avengers: Doomsday?

Alex Perez: Oh yeah. You can expect to see the Thunderbolts* show up in Avengers: Doomsday, and it’s going to be kind of hilarious and probably tense because imagine how Sam’s going to feel when he tries to assemble the Avengers, only for the title of the team to be taken by another group of rogue characters and Bucky and Walker are on the same team. The intense stare-down that’s gonna happen there is gonna be hilarious.

Radeon zonda: Hey Alex, Fantastic 4 looks like a must-watch movie for Doomsday. Does Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts* hold similar ranks?

Alex Perez: Definitely would recommend watching those two films prior to Avengers: Doomsday.

∀: Hello cosmic pals, I hope you’re doing good and have a good day, thank you for doing this again!  I was wondering if we’re going to know about the soviets (Alexei, Melina, Yelena, Natasha, Antonia) relationship from before/before joining Val/the team? Like Yelena/Alexei/Antonia went away together after Black Widow but we don’t know much about them after that except for Yelena.

Alex Perez: We’ll know a bit about it in Thunderbolts*. One of the things I’m most looking forward to is seeing the Red Guardian’s past play out.

While we did know that Sam’s Cap is all but confirmed (I mean, he will probably be one of the leads), and Yelena, Red Guardian, Bucky, and U.S. agent are officially confirmed (Ghost and Taskmaster are not) to appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ we didn’t know the extent of their roles.

I thought that Thunderbolts member would probably have more of a supporting role (like the majority of the heroes had in ‘Avengers: Endgame’), but these rumors might suggest that they are set for the much bigger role (I mean, it won’t be crazy at all if Yelena turns out to be one of the leads, stepping up in Natasha’s shoes).
