Marvel Teases Comeback of Beloved Villain in New ‘Deadpool /Wolverine’ Series

Following their highly successful entry to the MCU with ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ the duo is getting their own comic series. Last month, it was announced that writer Benjamin Percy and artist Joshua Cassara, known for their exciting work on ‘X-Force’ and ‘X Lives of Wolverine,’ will team up again this January for ‘Deadpool/Wolverine!’

The series brings Wolverine and Deadpool back together (even though Deadpool is currently dead, he’ll be brought back in Cody Ziglar’s ‘Deadpool’ comic run starting in January). It also reunites Logan with another familiar face from his time on Team X.

Marvel’s February 2025 previews hint at the return of Christoph Nord, also known as Maverick, a member of the CIA’s black-ops team.

A sneak peek at issue #2 reveals that a “fan-favorite villain” will make a return after a big surprise in ‘Deadpool/Wolverine’ #1.

Before disbanding in the early 1970s, the CIA sent Team X — including Wolverine, Maverick, John Wraith, Silver Fox, and Sabretooth — on missions to Cuba, Vietnam, and Berlin.

In 2021, Percy explored Team X’s past with Maverick in Wolverine #8-10, where the mind-wiped mutant was auctioned off by the CIA’s X-Desk. It was later revealed that Danger, the X-Men’s Danger Room, was working with the CIA to create robotic X-Men replicas for anti-mutant missions. Wolverine and Deadpool eventually defeated Maverick in Las Vegas.
