A few months stand between us and the release of ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ Despite the controversies surrounding the movie’s development fans have plenty to look forward to.
The movie will be Sam Wilson’s first standalone foray as Captain America in the MCU, it’s also going to see Thaddeus Ross transform into the Red Hulk. Recent trailer and the rumors surrounding the movie’s plot also hint that one almost-forget aspect of the cinematic universe will be finally addressed, Celestial Tiamut whose corpse will prove to be an important source of Adamantium.
Adamantium, the powerful metal known for Wolverine’s claws and skeleton, will play a significant role in ‘Brave New World.’ At the film’s start, countries are vying for adamantium resources. President Ross aims to share these resources globally and enlists Sam Wilson to help rebuild the Avengers.
Adamantium is a steel alloy and is virtually indestructible. It is considered to be denser than vibranium and shows greater effectiveness than vibranium when used for drilling. However, the creation of adamantium is an expensive process, and not many people possess the knowledge of how to create it – in the comics.
This means that MCU has found a perfect means to side-step this and simply write it off as being metal that Celestials are made of.
Introducing adamantium to the MCU at this point, just when Feige teased that we will soon see some faces we might recognize opens the door for one specific scenario – the Weapon X program.
The Weapon X program is a secret government project in Marvel Comics that experiments on people to turn them into super soldiers. It is most famous for creating Wolverine by injecting him with the adamantium, making his bones and claws nearly indestructible.
MCU might tie the newly discovered adamantium deposits into a perfect stage for various countries in the world to start creating their Weapon X program. Besides Wolverine and Deadpool, Sabertooth is also one notable mutant who was subjected to experimentation as he was turned into a savage, super-strong mutant with heightened senses
Besides those familiar faces, the MCU can easily explore the stories of X-23, Lady Deathstrike, and Maverick through these lenses.
Introducing Weapon X in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ could mean that Team X, not the X-Men, will be the first mutant team in the MCU. After Team X disbanded, many mutants like X-23, Deadpool, Gambit, and others were involved in Weapon X experiments. This opens the door for these significant mutants to join the MCU if Weapon X is introduced in the film.
