Back in In 2001, Stan Lee left Marvel to start his own company, POW! Entertainment, with co-founders Gill Champion and Arthur Lieberman. One of the first projects Lee worked on was ‘Stripperella,’ an animated series that was picked up by Paramount’s TNN, which later became Spike TV.
The show, featuring a character voiced by Pamela Anderson, was meant to be a comedic satire rather than just adult entertainment. Although Lee provided the initial concept and character designs, the rest of the show was developed by a different team. Despite its provocative title, Lee envisioned the series as a lighthearted comedy.
Stan Lee pitched ‘Stripperella’ and provided character outlines, but left the rest of the show’s development to other writers. He described it as a prime-time cartoon that would be funny, but not explicit. The series also planned to use motion capture technology to accurately depict Pamela Anderson’s character.
So, what’s the story like? Well, Stripperella is not your average superhero. Erotica Jones, also known as Stripperella, is a very attractive dancer who loves showing off her body in revealing outfits.
She’s often envied by her coworkers for her bust size. She has a brother named Chipperella, voiced by Jon Cryer, who leads a double life as both a stripper and a secret agent.
Stripperella has enhanced superpowers including super strength, reflexes, and agility, along with unique abilities like breast expansion, skin immunity, and the power to detect lies by her cleavage. Additionally, her hair can function as a parachute, and her cleavage serves as a limitless compartment for storing objects.
The show unsurprisingly lasted for only 13 episodes and was released to a generally mixed reception. Back then, it was also fraught with controversies. In 2003, Janet Clover, also known as “Jazz” or “Stripperella,” filed a lawsuit against Viacom, Stan Lee, and Pamela Anderson, claiming that she was the true creator of Stripperella and that Stan Lee stole her idea during a private dance session.
Recently, a clip from the series resurfaced online, and fans had mixed reactions to it:
Yes, I’m sure we can all agree that the show does have impressive animation and that’s the first thing we all notice.
