A sequel to ‘The Batman’ was announced in April 2022, with Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves returning. The sequel, titled ‘The Batman – Part II,’ will also feature returning cast members like Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell.
Filming is set to begin in April 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in England, and the film is scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, after being delayed from its original October 2025 date.
Due to the movie being delayed by an entire year, various conspiracy theories started developing that the movie was actually canceled, due to Gunn not wanting a competing Batman on the market, especially in light of Gunn’s own movie ‘The Brave and the Bold’ expected to hit theaters.
The rumors are connected to a different set of rumors that claim that James Gunn had a hand in ending ‘Superman & Lois’ prematurely, after 4 seasons instead of planned seven.
Now Gunn was asked about the project cancelation once again, and the director happily answered any and all questions.
In this statement, James Gunn expressed frustration at people who believe rumors or random claims on social media without verifying them. He emphasizes that if a project had been canceled, it would have been officially announced, and there would be no need for “charades” or playing games.
Gunn also showed his strong support for Matt Reeves, having been a fan of his work for years (since ‘Cloverfield’ and ‘the Planet of the Apes’ movies), and he reassures fans that they are eagerly waiting for Reeves’ script for the upcoming project.

There are absolutely no indications that the project has been canceled, especially with how great ‘The Penguin’ performed. If anything, everything points in the direction of Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga expanding in the future with more movies and spinoffs.
