The Star Wars franchise is rapidly expanding with live-action shows and movies currently in production. Recently it was reported that a new trilogy of Star Wars movies is in the making.
Lucasfilm has made a deal with Simon Kinberg, who has worked with them before. He co-created the Emmy-nominated animated series ‘Star Wars Rebels’ with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, which aired from 2014 to 2018. Kinberg also helped with ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens,’ the 2015 movie that brought the franchise back under director JJ Abrams.
These films could be episodes 10-12 of the Skywalker Saga, which began with George Lucas’s original Star Wars movie in 1977.
The latest reports state that Daisy Ridley’s Rey will play a big part in those upcoming movies, and now notable industry insider Daniel Richtman claims that Lucasfilm wants John Boyega to return to the franchise.
This information was shared via Richtman’s paid newsletter and wasn’t confirmed by the official sources or the actor.
In the past Boyega was pretty vocal about never returning to the franchise, despite his co-star Daisy Ridley claiming she would like to be reunited with the actor on set.
The chances of John Boyega returning to his role are slim, as he has stated he’s done with the franchise.
Boyega was unhappy with how he was treated during the filming of the sequel trilogy. He felt that Finn’s character arc was wasted, and the writers and directors didn’t give him the development he deserved.
However, Boyega has said that he has moved on from these issues. Although he’s always been a Star Wars fan, he wants to move past this chapter in his life. His focus now is on versatility as an actor, not being stuck in the same role like Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were with their Star Wars characters, according to his own statements.
