After the success of Ahsoka and the controversy surrounding The Acolyte, Star Wars is moving ahead with its next live-action series, Skeleton Crew. The show is set to premiere on December 2, 2024, with the first two episodes, followed by weekly releases.
Following the mixed reactions to The Acolyte, Lucasfilm and Disney are hoping for a successful outcome with Skeleton Crew. While some reports praise the series, others suggest it could face challenges ahead.
Set against the backdrop of the New Republic, this Goonies-inspired Star Wars adventure features Jude Law as Jod Na Nawood, a character who helps a group of children find their way home. With the intriguing premise, fans are eager to learn more about the plot and the show’s main character.
Jude Law’s character will be at the center of Skeleton Crew, even though the children are the main focus of the story. There has been a lot of speculation about this mysterious character, and up until recently, we knew he was a Force-user.
Many fans believed he might turn out to be a Jedi, but that is still unclear. His name has now been revealed as Jod Na Nawood, and while some fans hoped this would link him to a familiar character, it appears to be an original name.
This could still be an alias if he’s hiding his true identity, but regardless, there are many theories about who Jod Na Nawood really is. In this report, we’ve gathered some of the most notable theories surrounding his character.
The Jedi Theory
The most popular theory is that Jod Na Nawood is actually a Jedi. While his name doesn’t give much away, it’s possible it’s an alias for a Jedi from the Old Republic era who went into hiding during the Empire’s rule.
Given the history of the Jedi during the Empire, this theory makes sense and is often brought up by fans. Many famous Jedi, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, went into hiding after the Jedi Purge and refrained from using their powers.
However, this theory has a potential flaw: the story is set in the New Republic era, so one might wonder why he would need to hide his identity. It’s possible, though, that he’s not hiding at all and is simply another survivor of Order 66 that we haven’t heard of yet. The Jedi’s wariness after the Purge could also explain why he might be using an alias.
The Sith Theory
When things seem too perfect or obvious, they might be hiding a twist, and some fans believe this could be the case with Jod Na Nawood. Some theories suggest that he could be a secret Sith apprentice, a concept introduced in The Acolyte, or even a clone of Palpatine from Project Necromancer.
While both theories are possible, the idea of him being a clone of Palpatine feels more likely. If he were a Sith apprentice, it would raise a lot of questions about Palpatine’s legacy and his connection to Kylo Ren, which might lead to more complicated storylines that the franchise may not want to dive into.
The Rogue Jedi Theory
Rogue Jedi, like Ahsoka Tano, follow the Light Side of the Force but are not officially part of the Jedi Order. Sometimes called “Grey Jedi,” this term also refers to those who balance between the Light and Dark sides without fully embracing either. One theory is that Jod Na Nawood could be a Rogue Jedi who once left the Order.
There could be many reasons for his departure, which we can’t fully speculate on with so little information. However, if he did leave, it would explain why he hasn’t been mentioned in earlier stories.
The Force-User Theory
One interesting theory, found on ScreenRant, connects Jod Na Nawood to Obi-Wan Kenobi. According to this theory, Nawood could be Korkie Kryze, the child of Obi-Wan and Satine Kryze. This idea is based on an older theory suggesting that Obi-Wan had a secret child while in hiding, a theory that hasn’t been disproven by the current canon.
If this theory turns out to be true, Nawood wouldn’t be a formal Jedi but rather a Force-sensitive individual with no formal training. It’s already known that children of Force-users often inherit their abilities, and the idea of him being another Mandalorian would be an exciting twist.
