Star of ‘Dune’ movies, ‘Wonka,’ ‘Call Me by Your Name,’ Timothée Chalamet is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood nowadays. But, as the American and French actor recently pointed out, it wasn’t always bread and butter for him.

Timothée Chalamet recalls the times when he was losing roles in big blockbuster movies because of his physical appearance. Namely, the ‘Dune’ star didn’t get the roles in ‘Maze Runner’ and ‘Divergent’ after being told, “You don’t have the right body.”

The movie star, now the lead in Denis Villeneuve’s hit ‘Dune,’ said he even tried to gain weight to change how he looked, but it didn’t work.

“I would always get the same feedback, ‘Oh, you don’t have the right body.’ I had an agent call me once and say, ‘I’m tired of getting the same feedback. We’re gonna stop submitting you for these bigger projects, because you’re not putting on weight.’ I was trying to put on weight. I couldn’t! I basically couldn’t. My metabolism or whatever the fuck couldn’t do it.”

He admitted that those repeated rejections pushed him to choose smaller indie projects like ‘Call Me by Your Name,’ which eventually made him known worldwide.

“I was knocking on one door that wouldn’t open. So I went to what I thought was a more humble door, but actually ended up being explosive for me.”

As part of getting ready for the role, the magazine said he worked with a vocal coach, guitar teacher, dialect coach, movement coach, and harmonica tutor. His dedication was so strong that his co-stars, including Ed Norton and Monica Barbaro, shared that he mostly kept to himself on set to fully dive into Dylan’s world.

“It was something I would go to sleep panicked about, losing a moment of discovery as the character — no matter how pretentious that sounds — because I was on my phone or because of any distraction. I had three months of my life to play Bob Dylan, after five years of preparing to play him. So while I was in it, that was my eternal focus. He deserved that and then more. God forbid I missed a step because I was being Timmy. I could be Timmy for the rest of my life!”

Timothée Chalamet will next produce and play a character inspired by Marty Reisman in the sports film Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie. He is also set to return in third part of Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune.’
