The Acolyte has been one of the most talked-about shows this year, sparking massive debates online. Fans and critics clashed in a heated “Internet war,” with supporters defending the series while others harshly criticized it.
Despite initial buzz and rumors of a renewal, Lucasfilm and Disney ultimately canceled The Acolyte after just one season, leaving fans divided over the decision.
However, at FanExpo San Francisco, actor Manny Jacinto, who played Qimir, hinted during a Q&A session hosted by Collider’s Maggie Lovitt that the cancellation might not be the end for the series—offering an intriguing glimmer of hope.
The Acolyte faced challenges from the beginning. Showrunner Leslye Headland stirred controversy by stating the series would redefine canon, sparking debates among fans. While the show had its flaws, much of the backlash seemed to stem from its perceived “woke” elements rather than its actual storytelling.
Despite its issues, the show improved with each episode, and its concept had potential.
Initially, it appeared Disney and Lucasfilm were gearing up for a second season—especially after the teaser hinting at Darth Plagueis—but fans were shocked when news broke of the show’s cancellation, igniting fresh debates about the reasons behind the decision.
We’ve already discussed this topic in detail over the past few months, so we won’t revisit it here. However, a recent comment from one of the show’s stars hints that the cancellation might not be the end. During his appearance at FanExpo San Francisco, Manny Jacinto responded to fan questions and shared some intriguing thoughts about the show’s future:
“Oh man, that’s a tough question. They’re not [connected], they’re definitely not. Oh man, how do I answer that? What time is it? [laughs] There are definitely a lot of different theories, like who he is, because we never actually know his true identity. Is Qimir’s name actually Qimir? We definitely wanted to explore it.
There was definitely going to be more of Plagueis in the second, or if not, the third seasons of the show, but I just can’t say, because, you know, we could come back. I don’t want to spoil anything, or give anybody any false hope, but I would just say there was a lot more to explore, for sure.”

Although Jacinto clearly speaks about the series in the past tense, his comment, “we could come back,” suggests that something might be happening behind the scenes, and there’s a chance we could see more seasons of The Acolyte.
Given how the first season ended and the potential for more storylines, there’s definitely room for more. As soon as we hear any updates, we’ll let you know, so stay tuned!
