James Gunn is currently building up a new cinematic universe from scratch. Titled DCU, it’s supposed to replace Snyder’s ill-fated DCEU which has seen both major success and major failures over the years.

The DCU officially kickstarted with the release of ‘Creature Commandos’ today, but both Safran and Gunn stated on several occasions that ‘Superman’ bound for a 2025 release is the true start of the DCU.

‘Peacemaker’ season 2 is currently in production, alongside in-development ‘Lanterns’ a True Detective-style TV show focusing on three notable Green Lanterns, Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Hal Jordan.

Recently, it’s been revealed that ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is entering production in January 2025, with a 2026 release date. Gunn also recently cleared up that just beacuse some projects are on a release slate, this doesn’t mean that the projects will be released.

This is due to the fact that Gunn refuses to start production without a finished script, and if the script is not satisfactory, the project won’t be developed further.

Aside for the mentioned projects fans can look forward to ‘Paradise Lost,’ ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ untitled Teen Titans projects, untitled project focusing on Bane and Deathstroke, ‘Booster Gold,’ TV Series, ‘Waller,’ and movie focusing on ‘Swamp Thing.’

As you can see the slate is full, however in his most recent podcast appearance on ‘Happy, Sad, Confused’ with Josh Horowitz James Gunn shared that a new DCU project was approved last week, but he can’t reveal any details about it yet.

“It happened with another thing that was greenlit last week that I can’t even talk about yet.”

Hearing this news, fans immediately started guessing which “rumored” project Gunn was referencing. The most likely (that we know of) are the rumored Clayface movie and the rumored Sgt. Rock project.

Clayface is supposed to be directed by Mike Flanagan and his script was allegedly approved some time ago. The last update on the Sgt. Rock movie was that Daniel Craig was reportedly being eyed for the main role.
