The Spider-Verse films have become major hits in animated superhero movies. The first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, was a big success, and its sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, broke several records.
Released as Sony Pictures Animation’s first global film since The Angry Birds Movie 2 in 2019, Across the Spider-Verse earned $690.5 million worldwide, making it Sony’s highest-grossing movie and the third-highest-grossing film in the U.S. for 2023.
It also won Best Animated Film at the National Board of Review and was named one of the top 10 films of the year by the American Film Institute.
We’ve known that Beyond the Spider-Verse, the third movie in the series, was in the works since December 2023. Chris Miller and Phil Lord shared an update at that time, confirming that the team is working hard on the movie.
We’re in production… we’re really excited about where the story is going, I think it’s a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, and it’s as emotional as the other ones… we’re knee-deep in it.
In recent months, there were some concerning reports suggesting that much of Beyond the Spider-Verse had been scrapped, but those rumors have since been proven false. Jharrel Jerome, who voices Miles G. Morales in the franchise, recently shared with Screen Rant that he hasn’t recorded his lines for the movie yet.
He also mentioned that he doesn’t know many details about the film, but he’s excited to return to his role. Jerome is especially curious to see how his character will be developed, following the exciting twist involving him in the previous movie.
Jharrel Jerome: I haven’t, but I also can’t really say so much more because, you know, that’s such a tight-knit ship. I don’t even know much. I’m as much in the dark as you, but I’m excited to get back into it and see what they’re thinking, especially involving my character. That was such a badass twist to the last one.

The release of the third Spider-Verse movie has been delayed twice. Originally set for 2023, the release was pushed back to March 29, 2024, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. However, the movie missed that deadline, and the new release date is currently unknown.
