Several exciting Star Wars movies are in the works, including ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ set for release on May 22, 2026, with Jon Favreau directing. Other upcoming projects include films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, James Mangold, and Taika Waititi, with some still in pre-production or development.
Additionally, movies like ‘Lando’ with Donald Glover and ‘Rogue Squadron’ directed by Patty Jenkins are also planned, along with an untitled film by Shawn Levy and a new project from Rian Johnson.
We don’t get regular updates regarding most of these projects, especially in the last few weeks during which a new trilogy of movies has been announced, helmed by Simon Kinberg.
In his most recent reports, Daniel Richtman however shared some rumors regarding three upcoming movies.
I can confirm what Jeff Sneider said that now the Shawn Levy Star War movie is the one to move forward before all the others. Rey movie still on hold. Mangold one needs more writing
Let’s break this down. In November 2022, it was reported that Shawn Levy was in talks to direct a Star Wars film after working on ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and ‘Stranger Things.’ However, in September 2023, Levy shared that development on the film started but was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike.
Following the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Levy confirmed that he is actively working on a movie so this development is not at all surprising.
When it comes to Rey’s movie there’s been nothing but bad news regarding this production. The last we heard from rumors and leaks is that the movie is on hold following Knight’s departure and the writer. It’s also unclear what Rey’s role in the upcoming Kinberg’s trilogy will be.
The character is certainly being teased with a great future in the franchise, but the rumors are everything but positive.
Lastly, Mangold’s movie. Well, this one isn’t a rumor since Mangold himself provided us with an update a week ago. He mentioned that he and Beau Willimon are still in the process of writing the script and haven’t reached the final draft yet, so it’s unclear what comes next. He emphasized that they are focused on finishing the draft before moving forward with the next steps.
