Alec Baldwin recently spoke about the ongoing fallout from the 2021 on-set tragedy during the filming of Rust on David Duchovny’s podcast Fail Better. Baldwin described the incident as a life-changing event that has left him fighting to reveal the full truth about what happened. Despite the case against him being dismissed in July, Baldwin believes there’s more to uncover and share.

The fatal shooting occurred on October 21, 2021, when Baldwin discharged a prop gun containing a live round, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Baldwin has maintained that he didn’t pull the trigger, a claim that has been central to the controversy.

The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, faced legal consequences, ultimately being sentenced to 18 months in prison for evidence tampering and involuntary manslaughter. Meanwhile, Baldwin’s manslaughter charges were initially dropped but later refiled before being dismissed again in July.

During the podcast, Baldwin criticized the media, accusing it of amplifying stories that tarnished his reputation while suppressing information that could have supported his defense. He expressed frustration over the lack of a trial, which he believes could have fully exposed the facts of the case. “The truth has never been told,” Baldwin stated, adding that there are “troves” of evidence that were not presented publicly.

Reflecting on the past three years, Baldwin said he felt vilified to an extreme degree, comparing the experience to being invisible or even dead. He described the ordeal as exhausting but noted that he’s optimistic about the future. Recent conversations, he said, suggest opportunities to return to work. “I’ve got seven kids,” he shared, emphasizing the importance of moving forward for his family’s sake.

Despite the turmoil, Baldwin hinted that legal filings in the future could shed more light on the incident. For now, he plans to take a break, saying he needs time to rest and distance himself from the constant scrutiny. “I want to take a nap,” he admitted, signaling a temporary pause in addressing the case publicly.

The Rust shooting and its aftermath remain a deeply complex and painful chapter for Baldwin, who is determined to rebuild his life and career while continuing to push for clarity about what really happened on set.
