The release of the ‘Echo’ show brought new elements to the MCU. It was the first show under the Marvel Spotlight banner and the first character-focused, R-rated series. Even though the main character was not very well-known, the show did well. The biggest change in ‘Echo’ was that the show had to officially include Netflix’s ‘The Defenders Saga’ as part of the MCU timeline.
There are some problems with this of course, but this will presumably be ironed out in the future. Especially now that we are coming closer to the release of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ – a revival of the official start of the Defenders Saga.
Naturally since Daredevil is making a grand return fans have been wondering for a while about the other characters, especially Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Both actors admitted they are ready to reprise their roles and continue their stories.
In his most recent interview with THR, Brad Winderbaum Marvel’s Head of Television and Streaming explained that integrating the former Netflix shows into the MCU is a big opportunity, making those characters officially part of the MCU timeline.
He teased that characters like Colleen Wing could return under the right circumstances, and there are exciting surprises for fans of the Netflix shows, especially with ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ coming up.
It’s all one shared universe, so you never know where characters are going to pop up next. It’s a huge opportunity to have officially folded those stories into our canon. Whether or not they were always part of the canon, it’s now official, and we can play with those toys in our toy box. There are surprises around the band that I won’t get into, but for fans of the Netflix shows, we’ve got a very exciting show on the horizon in Daredevil: Born Again.

This is certainly good news for fans of street-level stories. Several weeks ago Winderbaum said he would love to see Jessica Jones’ journey continue in the MCU. There are also various rumors going around that the studio aims to continue shows like ‘Iron Fist’ or even develop a new show – ‘Heroes for Hire’ now that it has access to all the characters.
