James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ has been one of the most talked-about superhero movies since it was announced. Directed by Gunn, it stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
The movie aims to reboot Superman’s story after the challenges of the previous DCEU and kick off the new DC Universe in a big way.
Originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy,’ the film focuses on Superman’s struggle to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his life as Clark Kent in Smallville while staying true to classic values in today’s world. Gunn has made it clear that this won’t be another origin story.
Yesterday, a teaser trailer for the movie was released showcasing plenty of familiar faces including our core trio of characters. Fans had the opportunity to see Mr. Terrific, Krypto, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Kaiju, Papa Kent, and other supporting crew of the film.
It’s clear from the teaser alone that Gunn aims for a more classic portrayal of Superman. The director is also not afraid to explore Superman’s humanity and vulnerabilities as well as really bring us those comic-accurate depictions of characters – looking at you, Guy Gardner’s haircut.
In any case, fans are overwhelmingly pleased with what they saw, but as it turns out the theatrical cut of the teaser trailer has a couple of extra scenes showcasing a brief look at the Ultraman, additional scenes with Mr. Terrific, menacing Lex Luthor scene, and The Engineer.
Some of these scenes were leaked to Twitter as the theatric cut of the trailer was shown before the latest ‘Sonic’ installment:
Following the release of the teaser, Gunn also commented on the upcoming movie, revealing that it’s going to be under 2.5 hours long and commented on whether or not the movie will have post-credits scenes, and if it does, will they set up more installments to come?
If you look at my credits scenes on the Marvel movies, the one time I f***ed myself was when I put Adam Warlock in because then I’m like, ‘Oh sh*t, now I gotta put Adam Warlock in the next movie; which actually was a pain in the ass
So, I’m not gonna set up whole universes with end credits scenes,I love giving audiences who sit through all of the credits end credits scenes but I’d rather it be something that’s fun for fans and not necessarily, ‘Hey, we’re setting up the whole next part of the universe!’
Gunn’s comment regarding Adam Warlock is not that surprising considering that the character definitely feels shoehorned into the story and has so far remained unutilized properly even though comic-wise he is supposed to be one of the most powerful superheroes in Marvel Comics.
