James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ has been one of the most talked-about superhero movies since it was announced. Directed by Gunn, it stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
The movie will reboot Superman’s story after the issues with the old DCEU and start the new DC Universe in a big way.
Originally called ‘Superman: Legacy,’ the film will show Superman struggling to balance his Kryptonian roots with his life as Clark Kent in Smallville while sticking to classic values in the modern world. Gunn has said this won’t be another origin story.
A few days ago a teaser trailer for the movie was released, showing many familiar faces, including the main trio of characters. Fans got to see Mr. Terrific, Krypto, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Kaiju, Papa Kent, and other supporting characters.
As it turns out, the trailer for the movie broke the internet. James Gunn announced that the ‘Superman’ teaser trailer for the new DCU had an incredible start, with over 250 million views on its first day. He thanked fans for making it the most viewed and talked-about trailer in DC and Warner Bros. history.
Gunn also pointed out that the ‘Superman’ teaser outperformed other major movie trailers, such as the ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ trailer with 167 million views, and ‘Inside Out 2’ with 157 million views. However, the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ trailer still holds the record for the biggest trailer launch with 365 million views.

But is this really true? Disney’s stats included 123.7 million TV viewers who were watching the Super Bowl. This means that online, in the first 24 hours, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ managed to amass 242 million views, putting it slightly behind ‘Superman’ trailer.
It’s a phenomenal start but both movies still lag behind MCU heavy hitters like ‘No Way Home,’ and ‘Endgame.’
It’s impressive that ‘Superman’ reached 250 million views with David Corenswet, a relatively new actor in the role. In contrast, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ had the advantage of two major Hollywood stars. However, James Gunn and the DC brand played a big part in boosting ‘Superman’s’ appeal.
