Armie Hammer is making a return to the big screen, taking on the lead role in Uwe Boll’s new film, The Dark Knight. This vigilante thriller is set to begin filming in Croatia on January 27, with Hammer playing Sanders, a man who turns to crime-fighting and becomes both a hero and a controversial figure.
The project marks a significant comeback for the actor, whose career took a sharp turn in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct.
In a recent podcast interview, Hammer opened up about the challenges he faced during his time away from Hollywood, describing the experience as isolating but also reflecting on his return to work. “That first job I turned down after four years of this—well, it felt amazing,” he shared.
Hammer’s previous work included prominent roles in films like Call Me by Your Name, The Lone Ranger, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. However, his career halted after allegations surfaced, painting a disturbing picture of his personal life. Following an investigation, Los Angeles prosecutors decided in 2023 not to pursue charges.
The Dark Knight, which is based on an original script by Uwe Boll, explores themes of justice and public perception. As Sanders becomes a social media sensation for his crusade against crime, he also attracts the ire of the local police chief, who views him as a dangerous vigilante.
Boll expressed his excitement about the project, noting its timely relevance. Executive producer Michael Roesch emphasized that despite the familiar title, the film has no connection to Christopher Nolan’s ‘Batman’ trilogy.
This is Boll’s 37th film, with a career that spans action-packed hits like In the Name of the King and thought-provoking dramas like Attack on Darfur. His recent works, First Shift and Run, have garnered strong reception, and the team hopes The Dark Knight will follow suit.
Hammer’s resurgence began with Frontier Crucible, a Western also starring Thomas Jane and William H. Macy. The actor has also ventured into podcasting with The Armie HammerTime Podcast, where he explores personal and professional themes with guests. Playfully addressing the controversies, the podcast’s description quips, “Don’t worry… we feed him before every episode.”
With this new role, Hammer seems ready to reclaim his place in the entertainment industry, though opinions about his return remain mixed.
