Edgar Wright’s new adaptation of The Running Man has found its host. Colman Domingo, known for his roles in Rustin and Fear the Walking Dead, has been cast as the charismatic face of the deadly game show in this reimagined version of the dystopian thriller. Domingo will bring his unique style to a role originally made iconic by Richard Dawson in the 1987 adaptation.

The Running Man, based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King (written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman), tells the story of Ben Richards, a desperate man who joins a violent reality show to earn money to save his gravely ill daughter. Set in a grim, futuristic America, contestants like Richards are hunted by professional killers in a televised spectacle.

While the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger deviated from the book, Wright’s version promises to stick closer to King’s original vision.

The cast includes Glen Powell as Ben Richards, Josh Brolin as the game’s producer and primary antagonist Dan Killian, and a stellar lineup featuring Katy O’Brian, Daniel Ezra, Karl Glusman, and Lee Pace.

Additional cast members include Michael Cera, William H. Macy, Emilia Jones, and Sean Hayes. Wright is directing and co-writing the screenplay with Michael Bacall. The film is set to release on November 7, 2025.

Colman Domingo’s portrayal of the game show host marks a fresh take on the role, offering him the chance to bring his own charm and intensity to the character. While Dawson’s portrayal in the original film leaned heavily on his game-show persona, Domingo’s version will align with the darker, more serious tone of Wright’s adaptation. Known for his versatility and commanding presence, Domingo seems like a perfect fit for this high-profile part.

Domingo has had a busy career, with standout performances in Sing Sing, The Madness, and Drive-Away Dolls. He’s also set to appear in several major projects, including the Michael Jackson biopic Michael and Disney+’s animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. His ability to balance charisma and gravitas makes him an exciting addition to The Running Man.

With Wright at the helm and a strong ensemble cast, this reimagining of The Running Man is shaping up to be an intense and thrilling ride. We can’t wait to see how Domingo and the rest of the cast bring this twisted, dystopian tale to life.
