Natalie Portman Won’t Be in ‘Ahsoka,’ But a New ‘Star Wars’ Movie Is in the Works, Insider Claims

Big things are happening in the Star Wars universe. After the mixed reception of The Rise of Skywalker, we’re finally getting a new Star Wars movie in theaters in 2026, according to the latest rumors. It’s been a long wait, but it looks like the movie will kick off a new chapter for the franchise.

Before that, there are still a few other Star Wars projects to keep an eye on. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is working on a movie starring Rey, and James Mangold and Dave Filoni are each working on separate Star Wars stories. But all these projects seem to be moving slower than expected.

In a surprising update, we’re hearing that Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool and Wolverine, has a Star Wars movie in the works. According to insider Daniel Richtman, Levy’s project is moving quicker than anticipated, with shooting set to start in the UK later this year. If all goes well, the movie could hit theaters in 2027.

There were reports that Levy’s movie would feature Daisy Ridley as an older Rey Skywalker, but it’s unclear if that’s still the case. With Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey film still being written, Ridley might not be available for Levy’s project. Either way, it seems like Rey could still play an important role in future Star Wars movies as Lucasfilm expands the franchise into new time periods.

In other Star Wars news, there’s been talk that Natalie Portman might return as Padmé Amidala in Ahsoka season 2. The rumor spread quickly, but it turns out Portman isn’t currently in talks to reprise the role, Richtman claims.

She recently said she hasn’t been asked to return but would be open to it. She shared that her time working on Star Wars movies was an unforgettable experience, especially since it was her first time using green screen and digital effects.
