Nicolas Cage Slams AI:”Protect yourselves from AI interfering with your authentic and honest expressions”
At the 52nd annual Saturn Awards, Nicolas Cage made it clear that he is strongly against the use of AI in acting. After winning Best Actor for ‘Dream Scenario,’ Cage used his speech to warn about the dangers of artificial intelligence taking over creativity.
He argued that robots can’t truly understand or reflect human emotions and that relying on AI in filmmaking could destroy the heart and soul of art. His passionate words sent a strong message: Hollywood must protect real human storytelling from being replaced by machines.
Thank you for recognizing ‘Dream Scenario. This is in fact one of my favorite movies I’ve ever made. I have to thank Kristoffer Borgli for his direction, his writing, his editing and for creating this incredibly disturbing but hilarious world that he dreamt up.
But there is another world that is also disturbing me,” Cage continued. “It’s happening right now around all of us: the new AI world. I am a big believer in not letting robots dream for us. Robots cannot reflect the human condition for us. That is a dead end if an actor lets one AI robot manipulate his or her performance even a little bit, an inch will eventually become a mile and all integrity, purity and truth of art will be replaced by financial interests only. We can’t let that happen.
Nicolas Cage believes that art, including film and acting, should reflect human emotions and experiences in a deeply personal way. He argues that AI cannot truly capture the depth of human feelings, and if we allow robots to take over, art will lose its heart and become meaningless.
He warns that AI could reshape how we see the world, replacing real human expression with artificial interpretations. His message is clear: artists must protect their creativity from AI interference to keep art genuine and meaningful.
The job of all art in my view, film performance included, is to hold a mirror to the external and internal stories of the human condition through the very human thoughtful and emotional process of recreation. A robot can’t do that. If we let robots do that, it will lack all heart and eventually lose edge and turn to mush. There will be no human response to life as we know it. It will be life as robots tell us to know it.
I say, protect yourselves from AI interfering with your authentic and honest expressions.
Back in October, Nicolas Cage expressed his fears about AI being used to recreate him after his death. He was concerned that body scans done for projects like ‘Spider-Man Noir’ could be used to digitally replicate him without his control.
Cage worried that AI could steal his likeness and replace real artistic expression, questioning where the “heartbeat” of true creativity would go. He made it clear that he doesn’t want his image or face to be used by AI after he’s gone.
