‘Back to the Future 4’? ‘F*** You,’ Says Writer Bob Gale—And He Means It!

The ‘Back to the Future’ franchise has had a huge impact on pop culture since the first movie came out in 1985. It made time travel stories popular and influenced many movies, TV shows, and books.

The films introduced iconic things like the DeLorean time machine, hoverboards, and the phrase “Great Scott!” Fans still love and celebrate the series through merchandise, theme park rides, and events. The movies also predicted future technology, like video calls and self-tying shoes, making them even more legendary.

Due to this massive cultural impact, it’s not surprising that the issue of the fourth movie was raised numerous times. The creators of ‘Back to the Future’ don’t want a remake or a fourth movie that much is clear. Director Robert Zemeckis refuses to allow a reboot, and writer Bob Gale stated in the past he believes no one but Michael J. Fox should play Marty McFly.

Now Gale is here with yet another update. At the Saturn Awards, Bob Gale, along with stars Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson, talked about the franchise. When asked about a fourth movie, Gale firmly rejected the idea, jokingly saying, “Fuck you,” which got laughter from the audience.

He emphasized that they already made three great movies and didn’t need another one. Instead, he pointed to ‘Back to the Future: The Musical’ as the way they are keeping the franchise alive worldwide.

“We made three terrific movies and people kept asking for more Back to the Future so we made Back to the Future: The Musical, which Chris and Lea have attended on several occasions… We’re taking it around the world.”

Bob Gale stands by his decision not to make a fourth film, instead embracing ‘Back to the Future: The Musical,’ which has been a huge success. Reflecting on his lifelong connection to the franchise, Gale says, “My god… Back to the Future… I’m going to be doing it for the rest of my life…” but adds, “Who could ask for anything more?”
