Netflix Reveals Exciting New Indonesian Originals: ‘The Actor’ and Zombie Thriller ‘The Elixir’!
Netflix is releasing two new Indonesian films this year. One is a comedy-drama called ‘The Actor,’ directed by Ernest Prakasa, about an actor who loses his acting skills right before landing a big role.
The other is ‘The Elixir,’ a zombie movie directed by Kimo Stamboel, about a potion that causes a zombie outbreak. Both films feature popular Indonesian actors and are part of Netflix’s global slate of new content.
‘The Elixir’ adds to Netflix’s collection of zombie shows in Asia, which includes popular South Korean series like’ All of Us Are Dead,’ ‘#Alive,’ and ‘Kingdom,’ as well as the Japanese show ‘Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead.’
Indonesia is an important market for Netflix in Southeast Asia, but the role of the content head for the country is currently empty after Rusli Eddy stepped down in October. Malobika Banerji, Netflix’s head of Southeast Asian content, is temporarily handling these duties and recently took on the responsibilities of Thailand’s former content head as well.
‘Losmen Bu Broto: The Series’ is based on the 2021 film and follows the Broto family who runs an inn in Yogyakarta. The youngest child feels overlooked and tries to prove himself, but ends up falling for a married guest.
Other Netflix Indonesian projects include ‘The Most Beautiful Girl in the World’ (a rom-com), ‘Promised Hearts,’ and ‘A Normal Woman,’ a psychological drama. There will also be a series called ‘Ratu-Ratu Queens,’ which continues the story of four Indonesian immigrant women living in Queens, New York.
