Armie Hammer Breaks Silence On His Texts That Stated “I am 100% a cannibal”

Armie Hammer has finally addressed the messages and allegations that caused his downfall in Hollywood. In an interview with Louis Theroux on The Louis Theroux Podcast, Hammer opened up about the texts in which he claimed to be “100% a cannibal” and the accusations that led to his industry exile.

Back in 2021, Hammer faced allegations of sexual and emotional abuse from multiple women, which triggered a scandal that kept him out of the public eye. Some of the most disturbing claims included messages where he allegedly expressed a desire to “cook and eat” a woman’s ribs. These texts, revealed in the documentary House of Hammer, also contained statements about biting and branding a partner, as well as a claim that he once cut out a living animal’s heart and ate it while it was still warm.

In the podcast interview, Hammer insisted the messages were taken out of context. He pointed out that only his side of the conversations was shown, making it appear as if he was speaking to himself. “As you’ll notice, of all of the text messages that were released, the person who released them, their side was cut out of the entire conversation,” he said. “It makes it look like I was just rambling to myself.”

Hammer denied being a cannibal, saying, “You know what you have to do to actually be a cannibal? You have to actually eat human flesh. So no.” He suggested the messages were part of a private conversation that could have been playful in nature. “That could have been a very funny conversation between two people who were joking and pushing each other and egging each other on,” he explained.

The actor also admitted to being reckless in his relationships but pushed back against the abuse allegations. “I was selfish, and inconsiderate, and an asshole,” he admitted. “I used people to make me feel better. People were sort of like my bags of dope with skin on them.” While he acknowledged his behavior was wrong, he insisted it was not criminal. “Does it make me a dick? Absolutely. That’s not illegal.”

Hammer also reflected on how his career came to a halt after the allegations surfaced. Though he was never formally charged with a crime, the scandal led to his blacklisting in Hollywood. However, he believes his career is slowly recovering. In a separate interview on Your Mom’s House Podcast, he said, “The worm is turning, it takes time. It’s slow, but generally now the conversation when my name comes up with people in the industry is, ‘Man, that guy got fucked.’ And that feels really good. It’s really encouraging.”

During his chat with Theroux, Hammer also addressed his time in the Cayman Islands and his thoughts on working in Hollywood again. When asked if he would collaborate with Woody Allen, a filmmaker accused of child sex abuse, he refused to rule it out. “Well, no, because like, if I say, ‘No, I would never work with Woody Allen,’ then all I’m doing is saying, ‘I believe in this system that cancels people.’”

Hammer’s comments mark one of his most detailed responses to the controversy, but whether Hollywood will fully welcome him back remains uncertain.
