Dave Bautista is set to lead a new film, ‘Dreadnought,’ which marks his return to work with directors Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, the duo behind the action-packed film ‘Bushwick.’ The dystopian thriller will take viewers into a world ravaged by an alien plague, where survival is a constant struggle.
The film’s screenplay, written by Joseph Greenberg, tells the story of Max (played by Bautista), a man who lives in a world torn apart by the crash-landing of an alien species. This extraterrestrial invasion brought with it a deadly plague that wiped out Max’s wife and left much of humanity devastated. In this new, fragile world, humans and aliens are forced to coexist, but for Max, simply surviving is no longer enough.
The plot takes a personal turn when Max’s daughter, Greta, is also struck by the disease. As she grows weaker, a terrifying alien Sentinel begins to circle their home, waiting to claim her body for a ritual that could spell her doom. The government has sanctioned this ritual, and society has accepted it, but Max will not let his daughter become another casualty. Driven by the need to protect his family, Max must face the unrelenting alien force outside his door.
The film promises to combine intense action with a tense, gripping atmosphere, a trademark of the collaboration between Bautista, Murnion, and Milott. Their previous work on Bushwick showed their ability to create action-packed narratives while maintaining emotional depth, and Dreadnought is expected to deliver the same kind of excitement.
Producers on the film include Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee from Thunder Road, the studio behind the ‘John Wick’ franchise, alongside Jason Ross Jallet, Andrew Bronfman, and Jonathan Bronfman from Beyond The Frame, known for ‘Bride Hard.’
Bautista will also serve as a producer through his Dogbone Entertainment production company, along with Ashley Daniels. Noah Segal of Elevation Pictures, who worked on ‘Infinity Pool,’ will executive produce the film. Marz VFX, the team behind the visual effects for ‘The Creator,’ will handle the movie’s special effects.
The team behind ‘Dreadnought’ is excited about the project, with producer Basil Iwanyk praising the directors’ ability to create compelling stories on a budget. “Erica and I have been trying to make a movie with Jon and Cary since we saw Bushwick. They’re able to create incredible tension, mount some kick-ass action, and create a compelling world without breaking the bank. It’s exactly the kind of filmmakers Thunder Road has succeeded with in the past,” said Iwanyk.
With the film slated to be a major part of the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin, WME Independent is handling the film’s sales. Bautista, Murnion, and Milott are represented by WME, UTA, and Artists First, ensuring that ‘Dreadnought’ will have the support it needs as it gears up for its upcoming release.
