Michael B. Jordan Backs Marvel’s ‘Blade’: “They’ll Get It Back”
It seems that in recent months, all news surrounding the MCU’s upcoming Blade reboot has been negative. After months of troubling updates—and the departure of director Yann Demange—the other shoe has finally dropped: the film has been removed from Disney’s 2025 release slate.
Quite frankly, this move was expected. With no confirmed filming date, no finalized script, and no director in place, it was highly unlikely that Blade would meet its original November 2025 release deadline. Mahershalla Ali is still set to lead however Kevin Feige assured us earlier this year.
Now one former MCU star has addressed the movie and the delay. Michael B. Jordan recently promoted his upcoming vampire-oriented movie alongside director Ryan Coogler. Coogler and Jordan previously worked on Black Panther in the MCU so they have quite the experience with the franchise.
It’s hard not to notice the irony in the situation—while Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have successfully created their own Black-led action-horror film, Marvel is still struggling to bring its Blade reboot to life. Given Blade’s history as a fan-favorite, high-energy horror-adventure franchise, many expected it to be an easy win for Marvel. But so far, that hasn’t been the case.
Michael B. Jordan, who is also working on a reboot of a beloved 1990s film, understands how challenging it can be to get a franchise off the ground. He sympathizes with Marvel’s difficulties, saying:
“Launching any franchise, it’s tough. I hope it gets together. I want to see a Blade movie, you know what I’m saying? The Blade franchise was everything.”
Marvel has also been going through a rough period lately, with some recent projects receiving mixed reviews and underperforming at the box office. But Jordan remains supportive of the studio, keeping a positive outlook on its future.
“Marvel’s doing great,” he says. “They’ll get it back.”
