Marvel Studios Reportedly Developing X-Men: Academy X Series for Disney+

Marvel Studios is expanding in a major way, with several projects either in post-production or currently entering production. However, the studio is also shifting its development strategy, leading to the official pause of several previously rumored projects. Yesterday, reports surfaced that Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror Inc. are no longer in active development.
Now industry insider Jeff Sneider recently appeared on the Hot Mic podcast with John Rocha and revealed that Marvel Studios is working on X Academy show.
Sneider first commented on the paused development of these shows, calling it a strange story and a glorified press release. He noted that it doesn’t make much sense, given that the shows were never officially announced in the first place.
So when I heard about the Strange Academy I heard something else from a different source who I had asked about the Academy, they said “Oh I heard about the Academy show but it wasn’t Strange Academy.” They said that there’s going to be an X Academy.
They have sort of said that it was going to potentially lead into the X-Men. Someone else said I’d be surprised if they started doing X-Men shows before the movie and that it would probably be a spin-off of the movie, so it would come after.
Both of them [his sources] are of the opinion that there was in fact an X-Men show in the works about X Academy and young mutants.
What Sneider is saying makes sense, especially considering that, according to nearly all insiders and scoopers, Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot of the MCU. The studio reportedly plans to retain what’s working and phase out what isn’t. With a live-action X-Men reboot on the horizon, it’s safe to assume that the next MCU saga will focus heavily on mutants.
Given that, it makes sense for Marvel Studios to introduce these characters through multiple live-action shows, laying the groundwork for their future in the franchise.
As far as X Academy goes, this is a training school for young mutants, introduced in New X-Men #23. It serves as a new generation of Xavier’s School, where teenage mutants learn to control their powers and prepare for potential roles as future X-Men. The original lineup included characters like Anole, Armor, the Cuckoo Triplets, Dust, Elixir, Prodigy, Pixie, and Rockslide.
So the premise would be quite similar to Strange Academy but with a mutant twist, and it wouldn’t surprise me personally for that show to completely replace Strange Academy.
