Jennifer Carpenter has revealed that she won’t be reprising her role as Debra Morgan in the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection series. The actress, who made her debut in the role on Dexter and returned for the 2021 limited series Dexter: New Blood, said at the premiere of 1923 Season 2 in Los Angeles on February 19 that her time in the Dexter universe has come to an end.

I am pretty focused where I am, and I feel like I’ve completed that box. I’m proud of it,” Carpenter said, adding that she’s now focused on her role as U.S. Deputy Marshal Mamie Fossett in the Yellowstone prequel series, 1923.

When asked about the upcoming Dexter project, Carpenter wished the cast and crew well: “I hope that they’re having a wonderful time… And I’m so happy for the fans to have more to chew on.”

Carpenter starred alongside Michael C. Hall in all 96 episodes of Dexter from 2006 to 2013, playing Debra, Dexter’s adoptive sister. In the series finale, her character is taken off life support after being shot and suffering a stroke.

Dexter: Resurrection, a sequel to Dexter: New Blood, will air in the summer of 2025.
