Netflix is diving into supernatural horror with a brand-new series set in Newfoundland. Created by Jesse McKeown, known for his work on The Umbrella Academy and 19-2, the show promises eerie thrills mixed with a deep family drama.

This six-part limited series will take viewers to a small, isolated town on Canada’s Atlantic coast, where a terrifying sea creature begins to wreak havoc. At the heart of the story is a tough-as-nails fisherman, determined to protect his loved ones, his struggling community, and the way of life that’s slipping away.

Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury, Netflix Canada’s content heads, are all in on McKeown’s vision. ‘Jesse’s bold, ambitious vision offers thrills galore, with the heart of a family drama,’ they shared in a statement. ‘We can’t wait to transport our members to coastal Newfoundland with this timely story about community, resilience, and adaptability.’

The project boasts a strong team of writers, including Karen Walton (Orphan Black), Perry Chafe, and Natty Zavitz. Chris Hatcher (The Madness) and Sharon Hall (The Expanse) are on board as executive producers.

Netflix has been steadily growing its Canadian content, working with CBC on hits like Anne and Alias Grace. The platform has also helped shows like Schitt’s Creek and Kim’s Convenience reach global audiences.

Filming will take place in Newfoundland, a move that has local industry leaders excited. Picture NL CEO Laura Churchill praised the province’s ‘breathtaking landscapes, skilled crews, and deep storytelling traditions.’

Netflix’s track record with Canadian series suggests this new horror drama could be a hit. With its mix of supernatural terror and emotional depth, this one is shaping up to be must-watch TV.
