This May, Marvel commemorates the 50th anniversary of the iconic ‘Giant-Size X-Men’ #1 with a thrilling series of ‘Giant-Size’ one-shots, each revisiting pivotal moments in mutant history. For half a century, the seminal ‘Giant-Size X-Men’ (1975) #1 by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum has been a cornerstone of Marvel Comics, fundamentally transforming the X-Men. Celebrating this significant anniversary, Marvel is launching a five-part series that spans key epochs in mutant history, from Krakoa’s emergence to the ‘Age of Apocalypse’ and beyond.

The series promises to unearth deeper secrets of mutant milestones with a fresh twist—pondering how different things might have been. Writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, alongside legendary X-Men artist Adam Kubert and superstar Rod Reis, delve into these seminal tales. The event kicks off with ‘Giant-Size X-Men’ (2025) #1, where Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, is hurled into the past by a turbulent Legion, battling to prevent history from unraveling.

Following her team-up with the All-New, All-Different X-Men in Krakoa, Kamala faces her next colossal challenge in the ‘Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga’ #1. Here, she must ally with Jean Grey at a critical point, navigating through cosmic threats and mastering formidable new powers. Regarding the ‘Dark Phoenix Saga,’ Lanzing and Kelly remark, “It’s still a narrative that offers endless layers of complexity and emotion, even 45 years later.”

Moreover, each one-shot includes a ‘Revelations Back-Up Story’ which reveals hidden lore and sets the stage for future developments, starting with a tale in ‘Giant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga’ #1 that explores a secret connection between Scott Summers and Jean Grey.

Marvel’s ‘Giant-Size X-Men Anniversary Event’ promises more surprises, including issues like ‘Giant-Size Age of Apocalypse’ and ‘Giant-Size House of M’. The festivities begin with a special prelude in ‘Free Comic Book Day 2025: Fantastic Four/Giant-Size X-Men’ #1, available at local comic shops on May 3.
