Charlie Cox on ‘Daredevil: Born Again’s’ Biggest Shock—”I Don’t Think I’ll Ever Come to Terms With It”

Daredevil: Born Again kicked off with its first two episodes, and fan reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. The premiere wasted no time in delivering an emotional gut punch, immediately pulling viewers in. If you’ve watched the show, you already know—Foggy Nelson meets a tragic end within the first 10 minutes.

In a brutal and shocking moment, Bullseye executes Foggy, along with several innocent bystanders caught in the chaos. While it’s clear that Foggy was the primary target, his murder remains shrouded in mystery, with no explanation as to why Bullseye went after him. Even Kingpin has distanced himself from the attack, leaving fans with more questions than answers.

Foggy’s death sends shockwaves through Matt Murdock’s life, leading to his split from Karen and his decision to abandon his crime-fighting alter ego for good. The loss pushes him to the edge—so much so that he nearly kills Bullseye in a fit of rage. Realizing how close he came to crossing the line, Matt decides to walk away from Daredevil entirely.

Leading up to the premiere, rumors swirled that either Karen or Foggy might not make it out alive. Unfortunately, industry insiders and scoopers were spot on with their predictions. As much as we appreciate the heads-up, we almost wish they had been wrong.

Now in his latest interview, Charlie Cox admits he was shocked by Foggy Nelson’s death in the show. He said he expected intense action scenes, but the real challenge was losing such an important character.

Cox admitted that both he and Matt Murdock would struggle to accept Foggy’s absence. He called Foggy “one of the heartbeats of the MCU” and praised Elden Henson for his performance over the years. Cox said he felt truly heartbroken about it and wasn’t sure how Daredevil could exist without Foggy.

“The tougher pill to swallow is what happens to my dear best friend, and I don’t know that I’ll ever quite come to terms with that — both Matt and Charlie. Foggy Nelson is one of the heartbeats of the MCU. I don’t know quite how you have a Matt Murdock or a Daredevil without him. Elden [Henson]’s done such a beautiful job with that character over the years. I’m gutted, man. I’m gutted about it. Truly.”

Cox understands that Born Again needed to take risks to prove Daredevil’s place in the MCU. Losing Foggy was a major change meant to shake up the story. He explained that they wanted to surprise fans, make them uncomfortable, and set up a new path for Matt Murdock. According to Cox, Matt and the show itself will never be the same again.

While some good may come from it, a lot has been lost. Foggy’s absence will have a deep impact on Matt, making Born Again a much darker story. Cox is still coming to terms with the change, and fans will soon see if the show can succeed without its core trio.

“What I will say is that we needed to do something big. We wanted to rock the boat a little bit and put the fans in a state of discomfort, and offer a catalyst for everything going forward. Matt Murdock will never be the same again. The show will never be the same again, and it’s a big choice. There are some good things about it, and there’s a lot we’ve lost.”
