Doom’s Motivations Seemingly Suggest a Big Similarity with Thanos

Thanks to Alex Perez, it seems we’ve got some fresh info on what’s cooking with Doctor Doom in the upcoming Doomsday movie, and it’s not what most of us expected. Alex dropped some details recently, and the idea looks very interesting
As it seems, Doom isn’t just stepping in as a last-second replacement for Kang. That’s the wrong way to look at it. Instead, picture him as the guy who’s fed up with the multiverse mess and wants to fix it his way.
Perez says Doom’s big goal is to stop these crazy incursions—think universes smashing into each other—and keep the whole multiverse from falling apart. Sounds kind of noble, right?
In Doom’s mind, he’s the hero here. His followers probably agree, seeing him as the one who’s going to save the day. Perez even compares it to Thanos in Infinity War, where the big purple guy thought wiping out half of life was a heroic move.
Doom’s got a similar vibe—he’s not twirling a mustache for evil’s sake. ‘[He] is pissed at He Who Remains for essentially “silencing” his universe as well as every other universe/timeline that didn’t correspond to the Sacred Timeline,’ as Perez puts it, and wants to ‘take the reins of his timeline and win his freedom.’
This flips the script a bit. We’re used to Doom being the ultimate bad guy, but in Doomsday, he’s more of an antagonist with a point. He’s not just out to destroy—he’s out to rebuild, or at least that’s how he sees it. Perez thinks we’ll enjoy the movie more if we stop expecting a straight-up villain and start seeing Doom as someone who’s convinced he’s right.
He laid it out clear: ‘Doom wants to stop the incursions from happening and stop the multiverse from entirely collapsing on itself. In a way, he’s technically a hero (in his eyes and the eyes of his followers), kind of like how Thanos saw himself as the hero in Infinity War.’ That’s the core of it—Doom’s playing the savior, whether we buy it or not.
So yeah, when Doomsday hits, don’t go in thinking it’s all black-and-white. Doom’s got his own story, and he’s ready to fight for it. That anger’s driving him, and that could prove to be a main trigger point in the storyline.
