Move Aside Marvel, Aquaman Is Breaking Records Of All Kinds

If there was ever any doubt about the star power of both Jason Momoa and Aquaman, that doubt is gone.
Not only has the movie beat out both Avengers Infinity War and Black Panther for pre-sale tickets sold on the ticket site Atom Tickets, it has also brought in an astounding $94 million during its first weekend in China. This total easily surpasses Batman v Superman’s $55.7 million, Justice League’s $50.5 million, and Wonder Woman’s $37.6 million.
And it doesn’t end there.
Aquaman’s first week totals have surpassed the $150 million mark. This places Aquaman ahead of the other DC outings and, more surprisingly, a few Marvel ones as well.
Warner Bros. opted to release the movie before the North American debut due to an already jam packed holiday season. This, of course, includes the Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee. If Transformers history is any indication, Bumblebee will perform extremely well in China. Releasing it early is a smart play from Warner Bros.
Atom Tickets, chairman Matthew Bakal said this, “Clearly, Aquaman has captured the attention of movie fans with its larger-than-life adventure that must be seen on the big screen.”
And he’s right.
Aquaman is a dramatic departure from everything else Warner Bros. has put out. It’s big, bright, has a charismatic lead, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s no wonder that Aquaman is breaking records.
Early Christmas
As a fan of comics, I couldn’t have wished for a better Christmas gift. It’s nice to see characters not named Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America are capable of carrying a franchise. Aquaman’s early success all but guarantees that DC and Warner Bros. will move forward with their universe.
No more will Aquaman be considered the laughing stock of comics.
Aquaman swims his way into North American theatres on December 21, 2018 and I’ve already got my tickets.
Cheers,
Joel
