Two Years After the First Teaser Video, Netflix’s Sci-Fi Anime ‘Moonrise’ Finally Reveals April Premiere Date

It’s been three years since Netflix revealed the first teaser for its original net animation (ONA) series Moonrise. The sci-fi anime is something that was announced as a big project for Netflix and Wit Studio, but it’s been a while since we received any precise information.
Now, the streaming giant has officially confirmed that Moonrise is happening and it’s happening very soon. As it has been officially revealed, Moonrise will be premiering on the streaming platform on April 10, 2025, which is definitely great news.
The series is set in a future where a global AI, Sapientia, maintains peace on Earth, the Moon becomes a site of exploitation for criminals and pollution. This creates unrest, leading to poverty and sparking a rebellion. After losing his family to a terrorist bombing by the rebels, Jacob “Jack” Shadow seeks revenge by joining the Earth army. As a scout on the Moon, he uncovers an unexpected leader within the resistance forces, complicating his mission.
The project will star Chiaki Kobayashi as Jacob “Jack” Shadow and Yuto Uemura as Phil Ashe, but more cast members are to be announced soon. The theme song is going to be “Daijoubu” by AiNA THE END.
There is a lot of excitement about the series. Director Masashi Koizuka said that “this may be WIT Studio’s first space opera. (…) There was a real sense of excitement and a sort of madness as we were making it, and I believe that’s visible throughout the series.”
Kobayashi said he was “honored to be voicing Jack in the anime Moonrise. I feel extremely honored to be able to work on this project alongside such wonderful people who I respect very much,” while Uemura added that “it was a pleasure to feel the energy. I am extremely happy because I have been eagerly waiting for this announcement.”
The series premieres on April 10 on Netflix.
