‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Sees 44% Drop in Fourth Weekend, Becoming One of MCU’s Worst Box Office Failures
Captain America: Brave New World has, so far, made $176.6 million in the U.S. and Canada, and $194.6 million in other countries, for a total of $371.2 million worldwide. The movie needed to earn $425 million to break even, considering its $180 million production cost and marketing expenses.
In its opening weekend, the film made $88.5 million, topping the box office. However, in its second weekend, it saw a big drop, earning only $28.2 million, which was a 68% decrease—one of the worst drops in MCU history behind Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania (69% drop) and The Marvels (78% drop).
The movie did well internationally, earning $92.4 million from 52 countries, with China, the UK, Mexico, Korea, and France being the top markets.
In its third weekend, the film made just $15 million in the U.S., dropping nearly 50% from the previous weekend. The most recent numbers are grim, the film earned just $8.3 million in its fourth weekend, marking a 44% drop compared to its third weekend.
Captain America: Brave New World is currently the fourth lowest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) without considering inflation. The lowest-grossing MCU film so far is The Marvels, which made only $199.7 million worldwide. The Incredible Hulk follows with $265.5 million, and Captain America: The First Avenger made $370.5 million.
However, when adjusting for inflation, the numbers change. The Incredible Hulk actually made $391.8 million, and The First Avenger earned $523.3 million. This means that when inflation is taken into account, Brave New World becomes the second worst-performing MCU film, just behind The Marvels.
