Jenna Ortega Hopes to Join the Chaos in a New ‘Gremlins’ Movie
Fans were buzzing for some time with excitement about rumors of a potential third live-action Gremlins film. While it’s still unclear whether this project will come to life, one thing is certain: there’s a lot of interest in reviving the mischievous Mogwai and their wild, destructive Gremlin counterparts.
One person who’s particularly excited about the possibility of a new Gremlins movie is actress Jenna Ortega. Known for her roles in well-loved franchises such as Scream, Beetlejuice, and The Addams Family, Ortega has proven she can make her mark on iconic series. Now, she’s expressing her interest in bringing her unique touch to the Gremlins universe as well.
At the recent South by Southwest (SXSW) festival, where Ortega’s latest film, Death of a Unicorn, premiered, she was asked about which mythical creature or franchise she’d love to see make a return. Ortega didn’t hesitate and mentioned her childhood love for Gremlins. With a smile, she said, “Ya know what I used to love as a kid? Gremlins. Would love… Gremlins 3? 4? Call me.”
Her playful response indicates that she’s open to the idea of joining the franchise if the opportunity arises. She clearly has a soft spot for the Gremlins saga, which has remained a fan favorite since the release of the first movie in 1984. The series, created by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus, features the adorable, yet dangerous, Mogwai creatures that transform into chaotic and destructive Gremlins when given the wrong kind of care.
It’s been 35 years since the last live-action Gremlins movie, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, hit theaters in 1990. Fans have eagerly awaited the next installment, and rumors about a Gremlins 3 have surfaced in recent years.
While Warner Bros. has been reportedly exploring a new movie written by Chris Columbus, there is still no official confirmation about the project moving forward. However, Jenna Ortega’s excitement could be a sign that the next chapter in the Gremlins story is closer than ever.
With Ortega’s recent success in both horror and family-friendly roles, she would undoubtedly bring a fresh energy to the Gremlins franchise. Whether or not she gets the call, Ortega’s enthusiasm for the series shows that Gremlins still holds a special place in the hearts of fans, old and new.
