‘Invincible’ Season 4: Mark vs. The Devil? Robert Kirkman Teases Hellish Showdown!

Robert Kirkman, the creator of Invincible, recently shared an exciting detail about Season 4. He revealed that Mark Grayson might take on a new enemy—the Devil himself. This storyline was never used in the original comics, but Kirkman thinks now might be the perfect time to explore it.
Mark has faced many powerful enemies before, from his own father, Omni-Man, to the brutal Viltrumite warrior, Conquest. But a battle in hell against a demonic enemy could be something completely different. Kirkman explained that most superhero stories eventually have a moment where the hero travels to hell and fights the Devil. However, he never had the chance to include that in Invincible—until now.
In the post-credits scene of the Season 3 finale, detective Damien Darkblood, who was banished to hell in Season 1, is seen speaking with a mysterious demon. This character, voiced by Bruce Campbell, hints at summoning a powerful being to the underworld. Many fans believe this could mean Mark will be dragged to hell in Season 4.
“In the comics, he was never sent to hell.” Kirkman explains. “He was a great character that we loved from the first season. Clancy Brown’s portrayal of him was spot-on and so terrific. We always wanted to figure out a way to get Damian Darkblood back into the show, and then — gosh, do I want to spoil this? There’s a storyline from the comic that I never got around to doing. Every superhero story has some chapter where they go to hell and they fight the devil. “
“It happens in DC and Marvel comics. It’s a big deal. I never got around to doing anything like that in “Invincible.” I kept getting sidetracked and there was never a good time. So it’s entirely possible that we may be doing something like that in the show,” Kirkman teased, “and that scene at the end of that episode is setting that up. Oh my God, and we got to work with Bruce Campbell. It’s the best.“
If this happens, it will be a major shift from the usual threats Mark faces. Instead of fighting other superpowered enemies, he might have to deal with dark magic, supernatural forces, and possibly even his own fears. It could also give us a new side of Invincible, bringing horror and fantasy elements into the story.
Kirkman has not confirmed all the details yet, but the idea of Mark fighting the Devil is something he clearly finds exciting. If it happens, it could be one of the biggest and most unique battles in the series.
Would you want to see Mark take on the forces of hell? Invincible Season 4 is expected to be released in 2026, so we’ll have to wait and see!
