Charisma Carpenter Hopes to Return for ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot

Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer may see a familiar face return in the upcoming reboot. Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase in the original series and its spin-off Angel, recently shared her hopes of being part of the new project. Speaking at Indiana Comic Con, the actress expressed her excitement and optimism about the possibility.
“I hope so,” Carpenter said when asked about returning. “From what I understand, there isn’t even a pilot at the moment, so I hope—if I am involved—I hope so in some fashion it’s more in a substantive way. That would be my dream.”
The Buffy reboot is still in its early stages, but there are already big names attached. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy Summers, is set to return and will also serve as an executive producer. Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals) will direct the pilot, and the writing will be handled by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, the showrunners of Poker Face.
Additionally, original Buffy producers Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton (under her Sandollar Entertainment company) are all involved.
Carpenter is excited about the talented team behind the project. “I think it would be very poetic to be invited back, especially having the people that were involved to begin with, the best parts of it, Gail Berman, and then having Chloé Zhao direct—Oscar winner and, in general, badass [Laughs]—and then the Zuck sisters who are incredible writers and then obviously Sarah backing it and I hope to be part of it,” she said.
Carpenter’s character, Cordelia Chase, had one of the most memorable arcs in the Buffy and Angel universe. She started as a high school mean girl but grew into a strong and complex character. However, many fans were disappointed by how her story ended, feeling that her departure from Angel was rushed and unsatisfying.
