‘Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons’ Free DLC Reveals Two New Characters: Jeff and Abore

Two new characters are coming to the beat ‘em up game Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons next month. Publisher Maximum Entertainment and developer Secret Base shared the news today. The characters, Jeff and Abore, will be added as free downloadable content in April 2025. This update is the first of many, with six more fighters planned for later this year.
Jeff is a former friend turned rival of the game’s main heroes, Billy and Jimmy Lee. He trained with them in Sōsetsuken, a martial art, but fell behind. “A childhood rival of the Lee brothers, Jeff trained alongside them in the martial art Sōsetsuken. But as his skills lagged behind, jealousy grew.
Determined to surpass Billy and Jimmy, Jeff abandoned his noble path and embraced the streets, merging Karate with Sōsetsuken to develop a dangerous, unpredictable fighting style.” Now, he uses a mix of Karate and Sōsetsuken to challenge the brothers with his wild moves.
Abore, on the other hand, is a mystery. He’s a huge ex-soldier who doesn’t say much. “A massive ex-soldier with a stoic demeanor, Abore fights with raw power and unwavering calm. His incredible strength and resilience have led some to wonder: is he a man, or something more? The quiet brawler offers no answers, only crushing blows.” His strength and tough nature make him a force in fights.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons lets players control Billy and Jimmy Lee as they battle New York City’s criminal underworld.
The game mixes fast action with a tag-team feature, where players can pick two characters to fight together. It’s out now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. To mark the upcoming DLC, the game is currently 60% off on PC and Switch.
Players can team up with a friend in local or online co-op mode. The game also offers over a dozen characters to unlock, each with unique moves. Special combos and upgrades add more power to the experience. Fans can see Jeff and Abore in action in a new trailer released today. Check it out to get ready for the free update hitting next month!
