Dr. Impossible: Bio, Origin & History

Real Name: Jonas Lock

Powers: Dr. Impossible possesses superhuman strength, speed, reflexes and stamina. He also has a superior intellect, is a master escape artist, is a technological expert, can escape from practically anything, and is a master of hand-to-hand combat.

A Little History

The origin of Dr Impossible is pretty straightforward. 

Dr. Impossible was created by Brad Meltzer and Ed Benes. He made his first appearance inside the pages of Justice League of America, Volume 2, #1 back in October of 2006. 

Although he claims to be from Apokolips, the history of Dr. Impossible isn’t all that well-known. Dr. Impossible claims to be the villainous version of Mr. Miracle. In fact, Dr. Impossible actually claims to be the brother of Mister Miracle. The two share identical costumes, save for the color schemes. While Mr. Miracle wears a highly visible green, red, and yellow suit, Dr. Impossible wears a purple, black, and green suit.

Most characters that come from Apokolips either carry or have access to Boom Tubes and Mother Boxes. Dr. Impossible has neither. Instead, he carries a Father Box and employs the use of Hush Tubes. Like Mother Boxes that are used to summon Boom Tubes, Father Boxes can summon Hush Tubes. Contrary to Mother Boxes (which are Fourth World Technology), the Father Box that Dr. Impossible carries is a piece of computerized technology that’s based on Mother Boxes. 

Just because he’s a relatively new character in the world of DC Comics doesn’t make him any less important. In his short time, he has:

• Stole the body of Red Tornado
• Decapitated two of the Metal Men
• Invaded Earth Prime with evil duplicates of many New Gods
• Inadvertently brought forth Omega Man while attempting to resurrect Darkseid
• Nearly aligns himself with the villainous Dr. Thaddeus Sivana

The Dr. Impossible that exists on Earth-2 is different from the one that exists on Earth–Prime. This one, rather than being Jonas Lock from Apokolips, is Jimmy Olsen.

In this world, Jimmy is a technopath that possesses a photographic memory and goes by the name Accountable. This means that he can process information at an accelerated rate if the information is connected to the internet. Eventually, a Mother Box from Mr. Miracle finds him and grants him power so that he may aid in the battle against Apokolips. With his Mother Box, Jimmy takes the name Dr. Impossible and the rest, as they say, is history. 

And that’s it. The origin of Dr Impossible.
