The Top 10 Superheroes That Wear Black (Marvel & DC)

Share:

Black. Arguably the most timeless color in all of human history. It’s the color men dress in for weddings. It’s a symbol of respect at funerals. And it beautifully frames almost anything it’s against. Black is the only color that looks good with everything. You know this. I know this. And superheroes all over the world know this. This is why it comes as no surprise that there are so many superheroes that wear black.

Black has the ability to strike fear into any who looks at it. Black has the ability to hide any who wear it. And black has the ability to add credibility to any who uses it. With there being hundreds of superheroes that wear black in comics, it may be tough to figure out who the greatest of them are. That’s where we come in. We’ve analyzed more superheroes that wear black than can be counted and from our results, we present to you the greatest superheroes that wear black.

List of the greatest superheroes that wear black:

10. Batwing

The newest of all my superheroes that wear black, Batwing first appeared inside the pages of Batman Incorporated #5 back in 2011. Batwing, different from most other members of the Batfamily is not from the United States. Instead, Batwing hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

David Zavimbe, Batwing became a member of the Batfamily after Batman announced it was his intention to place a Batman-type figure in many countries all over the world. As a member of the family, Batwing has access to high-tech gadgets, can fly with his suit, is a master of martial arts, and is a brilliant detective.

9. Black Power Ranger

Black Power Ranger

When Power Rangers first aired, I’d be lying if I said I liked it. The truth of the matter is that I despised it. To me, there was something inherently hokey about a group of teenagers in special suits saving the same small town day after day. However, when I learned that each was given a giant dinosaur robot to pilot, I was instantly hooked.

Of the various Rangers, none had a weapon as cool as the Black Ranger. I mean, he carried around a battle axe as my son carries around a blanket. I can’t speak for you but there’s something really awesome about a giant axe.

Am I wrong?

The battleaxe commands power and respect in a way that other weapons just can’t.

8. Blade

Blade Origin

As the most famous vampire hunter in all of comics, Blade knows that he needs a costume that’s as formidable as he.

Think about it.

If you’re in the dark and hunting those who can’t easily be killed, it’s best that you A) aren’t seen and B) come across as ferocious. On any given day, Blade is dressed in black pants that are held up by a black belt, a black shirt, black boots, and a giant black trench coat. Blade likes black so much that even the handle of his famous set of swords is black. For obvious reasons, Blade is one of the superheroes who wear black.

7. Catwoman

Catwoman Darwyn Cooke

As one of my alltime favorite DC characters, Catwoman was an easy selection for me to make. Nearly every variation of her costume, save for the purple, grey, and original, is black.

As one of DC’s oldest characters, Selina Kyle has a history that very few will ever have. She’s been a small-time cat burglar, a menace in the side of Batman, the savior of Gotham’s less fortunate, the on and off girlfriend/fiancée of Bruce Wayne, and so much more.

Of all those in Batman’s inner circle, Catwoman is one of the only ones who can boast that she wasn’t raised by him or was brought into the fold because of who she was.

6. Miles Morales

Into The Spider-Verse Spin-Off

Arguably the most popular of all the Multiverse Spider-Man’s, Miles Morales is one of the superheroes that wear black.

His costume is basically a traditional Spider-Man costume whose colors have been flipped. That is, instead of a red costume with black lines, his is a black costume with red lines. And if you think that may look a little strange, think again. Of all the costumed spiders in existence, Miles definitely has one of the best looking ones.

5. Black Widow

With a name that has the chosen color in it, it’s easy to see why Black Widow makes this superheroes that wear black list.

Right?

Thanks to the success of the MCU, Natasha is one of Marvel’s most popular heroes. In fact, due to her popularity, fans all over the world have been begging Marvel Studios to make a solo movie.

And why?

First, she has one of the most intriguing backstories in the MCU. Second, she’s been a major part of most MCU events. And third, not only is she the glue that held the Avengers together after Thanos snapped his fingers, but she’s also the reason they succeeded in reversing his work.

4. Storm

As the X-Men’s Goddess of Weather, Storm has only gotten more powerful with time. When we first met her, she was able to fly and control the weather. Today, Storm can fly and control the weather but on a whole new level. She has such control that she can manipulate the atmospheric pressure in any given area…big or small.

Over the years, Storm has undergone many costume changes. She’s been clad in white, had a rocking mohawk, and even worn yellow. For all the looks she’s had, however, none are as iconic or as fearinducing as her all-black look.

3. Nightwing

Nightwing

The most famous of all of Batman’s one-time sidekicks, Dick Grayson took the knowledge he gained as Robin and translated it a successful solo career. As Nightwing, Dick stepped into his own and became the best of all of Batman’s protégés.

Dick is almost as good of a detective as Batman, one of the best fighters in DC, an incredible leader, and is the reason that Bruce continues to take in orphans.

Think about it.

If not for Dick’s monumental success, Bruce probably would’ve stopped taking in children decades ago.

2. Black Panther

Black Panther Throne

When you have a name like Black Panther, you’d better be sure to have a costume that matches it. After all, calling yourself Black Panther and parading around in orange costume is a little ridiculous.

King T’challa is the Black Panther and the leader of Wakanda. His nation is the most technologically advanced nation in the world. As such, he has access to weapons, devices, and the like that most can’t even fathom. Black Panther is an integral part of the Avengers and will continue to be as long as he wants to be.

1. Batman

Batman

You know, when creating this list I tried my best to avoid any and all members of the Batfamily. It isn’t as though they don’t deserve to be here.

No.

It’s more that their inclusion is just too obvious. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that they should be here. This is the reason why a few have already appeared.

Batman is the most important of all the superheroes that wear black. Not only is he the most recognizable, but he’s also incredibly effective at what he does…hiding in the shadows.

And how does he do this?

He wears black.

And there you go. The greatest superheroes that wear black. Agree? Disagree? Who would make your superheroes that wear black list?
