A Crew Member Claims Shooting ‘Brave New World’ Was Very Difficult, Marvel Denies Rumors

This Valentine’s Day, Captain America: Brave New World lands in theaters, marking a new chapter for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s the fourth Captain America film but the first with Anthony Mackie as the lead, taking over the shield from Chris Evans. Directed by Julius Onah, it follows Mackie’s Sam Wilson, formerly the Falcon, in his biggest solo outing yet.

But behind the flashy trailers and superhero hype, things weren’t so smooth. The movie went through massive reshoots, a delayed release, and even a last-minute villain addition.

A crew member who worked on those reshoots revealed that production was a mess, with expensive changes being made late in the game. Scenes were shot, scrapped, and reworked, driving up costs and causing plenty of frustration on set. The film had early test screenings that didn’t go well, forcing Disney to rethink its approach.

One of the biggest headaches was Harrison Ford. At 82, he stepped into the role of Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, a high-ranking military figure who transforms into the Red Hulk. Ford was reportedly difficult to work with, adding stress to an already tense set.

He didn’t seem to enjoy the process, especially wearing motion-capture gear, and crew members felt the pressure to keep him happy. ‘When Harrison was done, he was done,’ said the source, describing how the legendary actor’s attitude made things even harder for director Julius Onah.

And while the studio denied these claims, it remains to be seen whether more information will surface in the upcoming weeks and months.

Marvel has been struggling lately. The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania were flops, and CEO Bob Iger has admitted the studio needs to slow down and focus on quality. But fixing a franchise on the decline is easier said than done. Reshoots for Brave New World lasted nearly a month, and entire action sequences were cut.

One crew member summed it up: ‘This was the most stressful Marvel shoot I’ve ever been on.’ After all that effort, will the movie actually be any good? We’ll find out soon enough.
