Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) will release its next villain-focused film, Kraven the Hunter, on December 13, 2024. After wrapping up the Venom trilogy this year, which has been a key part of the SSU, the studio is moving forward with new projects, and Kraven the Hunter is the next to hit the screen.
Early reactions to Kraven the Hunter suggest it’s not a standout film, but it’s a solid entry that holds its own alongside the Venom movies. While initial box office projections are not promising, a recent behind-the-scenes video could help generate more interest and improve its performance.
Men’s Health has just shared an exclusive video highlighting Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s intense preparation for his role as Kraven the Hunter. The video showcases his impressive training regimen, giving fans a glimpse into the actor’s dedication to the role. Keep reading for more details!
Sony continues to expand its Spider-Man universe with Kraven the Hunter, following Morbius and the Venom trilogy. Despite the film’s strong cast, early projections for its success aren’t promising. However, the newly released video might help shift opinions on the upcoming film.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, widely considered a top contender for the next James Bond, has undergone rigorous training to transform his physique for the role of Kraven. The video gives an in-depth look at his preparation, while the full Men’s Health article details the specifics of his workout and diet to shape him into the iconic character.
To eat like the world’s greatest hunter, [Nate] Schmit built Taylor-Johnson’s diet around real food and stripped away the extras, like sugar. “The idea was, we have this monumental task of eating this much food—how can we do it, and keep you functional?”
That meant getting protein from real sources in any way possible, from bone broth and gelatin gummies and marshmallows to steaks. Then, they added carbs for plenty of fuel to burn.
The actor followed a strict diet for three months before beginning his training regimen. For those curious about how he sculpted his upper body for the role, the detailed instructions are available in the full article, which outlines the training and diet plan he used to achieve his Kraven physique.
The workouts were generally organized by upper-lower body splits, with four to five training sessions per week. Kingsbury challenged Taylor-Johnson to take on each exercise for 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps, pushing to failure with one rep left in reserve. Each session, Taylor-Johnson’s focus was to do one more rep than he did last time to drive muscle growth.
- Bench Press: 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps
- Lat Pulldown: 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps
- Seated Row: 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps
- Cable Preacher Biceps Curl: 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps
- Single-Arm Triceps Cable Pushdown: 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps
- Seated Dumbbell Shoulder Press: 2 to 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps
The actor also shared that to prepare for Kraven’s animalistic movements and stunts, he worked with David Kingsbury on movement-specific exercises. This included parkour and quadruped training, where, as Taylor-Johnson explains, “I run on my hands and feet.” If you’re impressed by his physique and want to replicate his preparation, you have the full details. Enjoy!
