MCU To Introduce Adamantium Through Dead Celestial in ‘Captain America 4,’ Here’s Why This Is a Huge Deal

This year’s SDCC was full of interesting reveals for the future of MCU. First, the title of ‘Avengers 5’ was revealed as ‘Doomsday’ and we know that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning as Doctor Doom.

We’ve gotten some information regarding ‘Thunderbolts*,’ and ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ and exclusive footage regarding the projects.

One of the biggest announcements however was tied to ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ Giancarlo Esposito will be playing Sidewinder the leader of the Serpent Society. Esposito’s character was added during the pricy reshoots.

It was also revealed that adamantium, the powerful metal known for Wolverine’s claws and skeleton, will play a significant role in ‘Brave New World.’ At the film’s start, countries are vying for adamantium resources. President Ross aims to share these resources globally and enlists Sam Wilson to help rebuild the Avengers.

Following the announcement, the same footage shown at CinemaCon 2024 was revealed. It included a new scene with President Thaddeus Ross discussing the celestial from ‘Eternals’ and adamantium production. Sam Wilson and Joaquin are seen flying together in their Falcon suits. The footage concludes with President Ross transforming into the Red Hulk at a podium in front of the White House, with the Red Hulk resembling Ford but with yellow eyes and black hair.

Adamantium is a steel alloy and is virtually indestructible. It is considered to be denser than vibranium and shows greater effectiveness than vibranium when used for drilling. However, the creation of adamantium is an expensive process, and not many people possess the knowledge of how to create it – in the comics. This means that MCU has found a perfect means to side-step this and simply write it off as being metal that Celestials are made of.

There are several versions of this metal, such as Proto-Adamantium, True Adamantium, and Adamantium Steel, and all are extremely powerful.

So far, adamantium has never been addressed in the MCU, yes the metal appeared in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ but in a different universe. Deadpool gets adamantium katanas in the movie but this is still Earth-10005 we’re talking about, and the Wolverine variant that definitely has adamantium skeleton is not from the Sacred Timeline as well.

Before ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was released, Feige said that the era of mutants in the MCU begins with the movie, and the fact that adamantium is becoming a thing in the MCU further proves it due to the metal’s connection to the X-Men and comic lore in general.

Adamantium was inserted into Wolverine’s body, making his skeleton and his claws virtually indestructible. Adamantium was also used in creating Captain America’s shield, and there are only five instances when the shield was damaged or destroyed, so we can likely expect something related to that as well.
