‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ premiered to horrific critics and audience scores. The movie currently holds a 32% approval rate by critics and a 32% approval rate by audiences, making it completely rotten.
The movie also received a “D” CinemaScore, the lowest so far for a superhero movie, although calling ‘Joker 2’ a superhero movie or even a comic adaptation would be a pretty big stretch.
Soon after a disastrous box office opening, the movie has seen one of the sharpest second weeks declines in the history of the genre, earning just $2.2 million on its second Friday, marking an 89.1% drop from its opening day—one of the lowest second-weekend performances for a DC film released this century.
As of November 3, 2024, ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ has earned $204.7 million worldwide, with $58.2 million from the U.S. and Canada and $146.5 million from other regions. With a break-even point estimated between $375 million and $450 million, the film is projected to lose Warner Bros. between $125–200 million during its theatrical run.
It wasn’t a surprise that the movie was released on Premium Video On Demand weeks after it was released, as this is usually a sign of poor box office performance. It seems that the movie also managed to flop on VOD platforms.
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ has only reached fourth place on both the iTunes and Fandango charts. On iTunes, it’s behind ‘The Substance,’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ and ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,’ which is at least a positive for Warner Bros. On Fandango, where rankings are based on revenue, it also trails ‘The Wild Robot,’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ and ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.’
