‘Agatha All Along’ is the most recent MCU release and a sequel to ‘WandaVision.’ The show takes place around 3 years following the events of ‘WandaVision’ and further explores Scarlet Witch’s magical and occult corner of the cinematic universe.

The show is heavy in allegory and symbolism, some “real-life” magic was referenced and there’s hardly a set piece or a costume piece that doesn’t have a deeper meaning.

The show’s costume designer Daniel Selon recently commented on several costume pieces. The designer explained the awesome tale behind Wiccan’s cape and its connections to both Wanda and Vision and now he revealed something more about the wardrobe of the show’s most mysterious (and powerful) character – Rio Vidal aka Lady Death.

Rio is the original green witch, and as such she has a connection to earth and pretty much everything biological. This was reflected in her scenes and her wardrobe. When Rio wasn’t in her macabre black garb, she could often be seen toying with various flowers and in her green suit.

Selon recently decided to share the story behind her flowers with his fans on Instagram:

The concept of Rio’s flowers evolved during a fitting, where a congested costume design led to the flower being repurposed as a prop, inspiring the idea of Rio blooming flowers at will, with each handmade flower symbolizing different trials in the story, including the ominous “Death Flower.”

Here’s the story behind Rio’s flowers.

In the original concept artwork for The Green Witch, a flower blooms from her chest where the jacket closes. During the fitting with Aubrey, it became clear that it was all too congested around the neckline and keeping the jacket closed all the time felt claustrophobic.

So we popped it off and Aubrey held it in her hand while we fit the rest of the garment. She began to play with it, twirl it around in her fingers, chew on it and used it to gesture. It had become (very naturally) a prop! So right there in the fitting room we hatched the idea that Rio would bloom flowers whenever she wanted.

Jac loved the idea and so my brilliant specialty costume fabricators @ainstrains and @bluebrookz hand crafted and painted fantasy flowers that correlated to the color of each trial on the road.

My personal favorite is The Death Flower, reserved for the moments when Lady Death offers you a beautiful orchid and a one way trip to across the river Styx.

As you can see, the details behind the show are as interesting as the show itself, and the costumes are easily the story of their own all thanks to the brilliant Selon!
