‘Agatha All Along’ recently aired its final two episodes. While the show truly did answer some of the most glaring mysteries, I’m afraid that it also left plenty of stuff to think about, and perhaps draw our own conclusions about them.
Agatha’s son Nicholas Scratch was certainly one of the biggest mysteries in the show. Initially, we’ve heard rumors that Agatha sacrificed him to Mephisto to get Darkhold. The subsequent episodes proved that Agatha cared about her son and that whatever happened to him in the past left a permanent trauma on her psyche.
Episode 9 showed us exactly what happened. The flashback showcases Agatha going through the woods about to give birth. She is however in terrible condition and just as she is about to start labor she can see Death manifesting a few feet from her. It turns out that Agatha’s son was supposed to be stillborn, he should have never lived through the birth.
Agatha bargained with Death, and while Rio told her she couldn’t save his life, she could give both of them more time. Agatha obviously accepted and started killing witches with her son in order to buy more time for him.
Ultimately Nicky was sick of that life and decided to walk away with Rio into the great unknown.
Now we know the tragic short story of Nicholas Scratch, but one of the most obvious, most glaring mysteries still remains – who on earth is Nicky’s father?
It seems like a strange thing not to mention, even if he was someone unknown, the least you can do is write an off-hand comment about him being some random peasant or someone that Agatha seduced.
Our theory is that Mephisto is Nicholas’ father, primarily due to his connection to the demon in the comics and well, Agatha. There’s also that line that Agatha delivers just after giving birth to him:
I spoke no spell. I said no incantation. You… You were made from scratch.
The first part suggests that Agatha did not use magic to manifest Nicky, like for example, Wanda did for her sons. The second part suggests something weirder. We know that babies usually aren’t created from nothing, Agatha’s line suggests that some form of immaculate conception has taken place.
Considering that Agatha is not exactly aligned with the good…. it only makes sense that Mephisto is behind the conception.
Once again, mostly due to his connection to Nicholas and Agatha. But this leaves us to question why Mephisto didn’t save his son – or rather he did save him – by pulling him into his domain and trapping his soul.
Let’s be honest here Agatha is most likely going straight to hell, or whatever equivalent Mephisto has at his disposal in the MCU. So when Agatha said that she was afraid to crossover and face her son, she kind of implied that Nicky would be in hell as well. Think of that what you will.
